UCSB First's mission is to foster a campus-wide culture of philanthropy. We strive to inspire students to get involved with philanthropy now because collectively, we can make a difference. Throughout the year, UCSB First holds several significant events, hosts voting parties to select the Senior Class Gift, and supports student organizations that give back to their community.
UCSB First shows students the impact of collective giving. On Give Day, your support will strengthen student-led initiatives at UC Santa Barbara.
Thank you for your support of UCSB First. We are grateful for your commitment and mentorship of our students!
UCSB First is happy to announce that the class of 2018 has chosen the Sexual Assault Survivor Fund as the winner of their Senior Class Gift. Supported by Campus Advocacy Resource and Education (CARE), the Sexual Assault Survivor Fund is a donor-supported fund dedicated to providing immediate support for survivors experiencing unexpected financial burdens. With a record- breaking number of 658 votes, the class of 2018 will now have the opportunity to show their support for this worthwhile cause as they become members of the Gaucho alumni network.
The UCSB CARE Office is the confidential service provider for survivors of sexual assault, partner violence, and stalking. After an experience of violence, the financial strain survivors face can create barriers to health, healing, and future academic success. Each year, CARE Advocates work with student survivors to promote holistic healing, empowerment, support navigating complex systems, and advocate to uphold students’ rights.
Gifts to the Sexual Assault Survivor Fund provide modest financial support to cover unexpected, short-term, emergency expenses. Common examples of funding use include an emergent safe place to stay, medical costs, court and legal costs associated with reporting to law enforcement. The goal of the fund is to decrease the financial barriers that a survivor may face and prevent them from seeking assistance.
The Senior Class Gift to contribute to the Fund demonstrates that as a community, we will come together to create a culture that supports survivors and send a message that “you are not alone.”
