Today’s undergraduates are tomorrow’s intellectual and professional leaders. The Division of Undergraduate Education supports UC Santa Barbara students throughout their experiences, helping them to develop strategies and skills to thrive during their time at UCSB and beyond.
We help students access the intellectual resources of the university through programs like Discovery@UCSB seminars and the Letters and Science Honors Program.
We support excellence through academic advising and academic success initiatives.
We foster engagement in the campus and community through programs like undergraduate research and study-internship programs in Washington, D.C. and Sacramento.
Please join us and make your commitment to the future today by supporting one of the programs we are highlighting for #UCSBGiveDay. With your help we will support current and future UCSB students as they seek access, excellence, and engagement through the Division of Undergraduate Education.
Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities:
A Story of Exploration and Discovery
The role of a great research university is to teach students to embrace their curiosity and give them the tools they need to answer their own questions. UCSB has a strong commitment to do just that. Whether through working in a lab, reading ancient manuscripts, or performing Shakespeare, there are endless research questions to be asked and answers to be found. Students learn how to seek knowledge through creativity, analysis, and experimentation. In the process, they reinforce skills critical for success at UCSB and beyond: including how to design and test a research question, how to synthesize information, and how to communicate effectively. Undergraduate Research is a life-changing experience that prepares students for graduate and professional schools as well as careers.
Curiosity may be free, but undergraduate research isn’t. In order to fund undergraduate research and creative activities at UCSB, students need your support.
Resilient, driven, and determined: Transfer students represent a growing number of students at UC Santa Barbara. After having successfully navigated the transfer process to arrive at UCSB, transfer students must then quickly reorient themselves to a new environment and a new system in order to graduate in two years. The new Transfer Student Center (TSC), located in the heart of campus at the University Library, plays an important role . No question is too small for the TSC, and experienced transfer student Peer Educators are always on hand to guide students as they navigate this new environment. The TSC also provides academic advising, programs specific to transfer student needs, connections to campus resources, and access to faculty mentors. Our staff works to ensure that transfer students take full advantage of all that UCSB has to offer during their brief time at UCSB!

For first-generation college students, the journey to earning a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara requires them to understand an entirely new and unique system. The Opening New Doors to Accelerating Success (ONDAS) Student Center supports students who are among the first in their family to be on this journey so that they don’t feel alone in the process. The ONDAS center provides a space for first-generation students to gain academic support, access campus resources, create community with others, and connects them with faculty mentors. These opportunities offer students the ability to connect with the University at a deeper level, ensuring that these future leaders have the support and resources they need to not only succeed but thrive at UCSB.
