The Marine Science Institute (MSI) at UC Santa Barbara brings together researchers and students across over 14 disciplines to tackle a diverse array of challenges affecting the world’s oceans today. With over 300 collaborative research projects happening at any given time, the impact of MSI extends beyond our local waters to explore every kind of marine, coastal zone, and freshwater ecosystem.
Our mission to foster innovative and significant research, promote effective stewardship of the marine ecosystem, and share exciting discoveries about our oceans, has grown to have a significant impact on our local and global community. Educational outreach is a key component of this mission as MSI engages tens of thousands of people each year through its public talks, research publications, and teaching aquarium, known as the Research Experience and Education Facility (REEF).
As MSI celebrates over 50 years of research, you can help us embrace the next generation of scientists and educators and tackle the new challenges to arise in marine science.
